Zoho ERP vs Zoho Inventory + Zoho Books: Which Should Indian Businesses Choose?
Zoho now sells a full ERP in India, but plenty of businesses still run Zoho Inventory and Zoho Books side by side. The right answer depends on your user count, whether you manufacture, and how many processes you want in one system.
Related service: Zoho Inventory →For years the standard Zoho stack for an Indian trading or distribution business was Zoho Books for accounting and GST plus Zoho Inventory for stock, orders and warehouses, connected through Zoho's native sync. Zoho ERP changes the question. It brings finance, inventory, procurement, manufacturing, payroll, POS and distribution into one product on one database. That sounds like an obvious upgrade, but it is priced and scoped differently, and for many small businesses the two-app setup is still the better buy.
What each option actually is
- Zoho Books + Zoho Inventory: two separate apps that share items, contacts and transactions. Each is priced per organisation, with a set number of users included in the plan
- Zoho ERP: a single suite built for Indian mid-sized businesses, covering finance and GST compliance, multi-location inventory and warehouses, procurement, manufacturing orders and shop-floor production, payroll with statutory compliance, retail POS and distribution tools. It is priced per user
Pricing models compared
| Zoho Books + Zoho Inventory | Zoho ERP | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing basis | Per organisation, per app, with bundled users | Per user per month, with a separate per-employee rate for staff who only need self-service |
| Entry point | Free tiers exist for very small businesses; paid plans scale by order volume, users and locations | Standard: about ₹999 per user per month billed annually (₹1,399 monthly), minimum 5 users |
| Higher tier | Move each app up a plan as limits are reached | Premium: about ₹2,499 per user per month billed annually (₹2,999 monthly) |
| Transaction limits | Order and invoice caps per plan in each app | About 1 lakh transactions a year on Standard, up to 3 lakh on Premium |
| Locations | Varies by Inventory plan | 10 locations included, extra locations as an add-on |
Zoho ERP figures are from Zoho's India pricing page at the time of writing and exclude 18% GST; plan-level feature access and add-on prices should be confirmed with Zoho. Zoho Books and Zoho Inventory pricing is covered in our separate pricing guides. Always verify current pricing on Zoho's official site before budgeting.
The practical effect: a business with three or four people in the back office will usually pay less for Books plus Inventory, because the minimum ERP commitment is five users. As user counts grow and you would otherwise be stacking Payroll, POS and a manufacturing workaround on top, the per-user ERP price becomes easier to justify.
Where Zoho ERP clearly wins
- Manufacturing: manufacturing orders, work centres, shop-floor production, cost templates and quality inspections, which Zoho Inventory's composite items cannot replace for multi-stage production
- One database: no sync between apps, so stock valuation, purchases and the ledger cannot drift apart
- Payroll and people in the same system, including PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS
- Retail and distribution: POS registers, cash sessions, beat management and scheme offers for FMCG-style distribution
- Larger warehouse operations: unlimited bins per location on Premium and higher limits for custom reports
Where Zoho Inventory + Zoho Books is still the better buy
- Small teams: two to five users where the ERP minimum would mean paying for unused seats
- Pure trading and e-commerce: buying, stocking and selling without production, especially with marketplace and Shopify integrations
- Phased adoption: start with Books for GST and accounting, add Inventory once stock control becomes painful
- Zoho One customers: Books and Inventory are already part of the Zoho One bundle, so there may be no extra licence cost at all
A simple decision guide
| Your business | Recommended starting point |
|---|---|
| Trader or distributor, under 5 back-office users | Zoho Books + Zoho Inventory |
| E-commerce brand selling on marketplaces | Zoho Books + Zoho Inventory |
| Manufacturer with BOMs, routing or job work | Zoho ERP |
| Multi-branch retailer needing POS and payroll | Zoho ERP |
| Already on Zoho One with light manufacturing | Books + Inventory, with a Zoho Creator production app if needed |
Planning a later switch
Moving from Books and Inventory to Zoho ERP is a migration, not a toggle. Items, opening stock, open sales and purchase orders, and accounting balances all need a clean cut-over date, ideally at the start of a financial year or quarter. If you expect to add production stages or payroll within the next twelve months, evaluate Zoho ERP now. Clean item codes, warehouses and chart of accounts make either path easier.
Our take
Zoho ERP is a strong option for Indian manufacturers and multi-location businesses that want one system instead of four. For smaller traders and online sellers, Zoho Books with Zoho Inventory remains the leaner, cheaper and quicker setup. As a certified Zoho partner, we map your order-to-cash and procure-to-pay flows first, then recommend the stack that fits your volumes rather than the biggest licence.
Frequently asked questions
Is Zoho ERP the same as Zoho One?
No. Zoho One is a bundle of 45+ separate Zoho apps, including Books and Inventory, under one licence. Zoho ERP is a single integrated product focused on finance, supply chain, manufacturing, payroll and retail operations for Indian businesses.
How much does Zoho ERP cost in India?
At the time of writing, Zoho lists Standard at about ₹999 per user per month and Premium at about ₹2,499 per user per month on annual billing, excluding GST, with a five-user minimum on Standard. Verify current pricing and inclusions on Zoho's official site.
Can Zoho Inventory handle manufacturing instead of Zoho ERP?
Only simple assembly. Composite items work as a single-level recipe for kits and basic assemblies. Multi-stage production, work centres and shop-floor tracking need Zoho ERP or a custom Zoho Creator app.
